Police are continuing to search for a man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend at a north Phoenix apartment complex Thursday afternoon.

Sgt. Vince Lewis said 19-year-old Maleqe Thompson is believed to be armed and should not be approached.

Thompson fled into a desert area near the complex at Cave Creek and Thunderbird roads after police responded to calls of shots fired around 4 p.m. Thursday.

The victim, a woman believed to be around 40 years old, had been shot and was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Lewis said Thompson and the victim were recently involved in a romantic relationship.

Anyone with information on Thompson's whereabouts is urged to contact Phoenix Police or Silent Witness.
