Police: Westbound Bell Road reopens near SR51 in Phoenix after crash

A crash closed a major east/west street through the afternoon rush hour in the north Valley.

The Phoenix Police Department says a crash on Bell Road near State Route 51 closed the westbound lanes of Bell for about four hours.

Officers responded around 1:50 p.m. after several vehicles crashed. Authorities said several people suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. There was no immediate word on exactly how many people were hurt.

Police had not yet determined if impairment was a factor, according to a department spokeswoman.

The roadway reopened to traffic around 6:15 p.m.
