A north Phoenix neighborhood was evacuated Wednesday night after a suspicious device was thrown at a man during an altercation.

Police say they received a call around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday about a subject with a gun near Cave Creek Road and Greenway Parkway.

Officers who arrived on scene found a man who said he was in a verbal altercation with the suspect when the suspect threw an "unknown device" at him.

The victim thought he may have been in danger, believing it was possibly an incendiary, or bomb-type, device, and held the suspect at gunpoint until officers arrived.

Police detained the suspect and evacuated the area while bomb squad detectives investigated.

At this time, it's not clear what the item was. Stay with ABC15 for updates.
