PHOENIX — A 36-year-old man is dead after being struck by a vehicle near 51st and Sweetwater avenues Saturday night.
Phoenix police say 36-year-old Jerry Smith began to cross 51st Avenue eastbound on a "Don't Walk" signal and "left the crosswalk to walk northbound after the light for north/southbound vehicle traffic had changed to green" Phoenix police say.
Upon crossing, Smith was hit by a Chevy Silverado pickup truck traveling northbound in the curb lane.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
Impairment and speed were not factors in the fatal crash, according to police.
No charges are pending at this time.
