Man, dog killed while crossing north Phoenix street

PHOENIX - Police say a man and his dog were hit and killed in north Phoenix on Wednesday night.

Officers responded to a crash near 19th Avenue and Bell Road around 8 p.m. At the scene, a 50-year-old man and his dog had crossed the street midblock and a northbound vehicle hit them.

The man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. His dog was also killed.

The driver reportedly stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash and police say there were no signs of impairment.

The victim's name has not yet been released.
