FD: Driver rescued from canal near 27th and Dunlap avenues

PHOENIX — A driver had to be rescued by Phoenix firefighters after crashing an SUV into a canal Saturday night.

Rescue crews were called to the scene near 27th and Dunlap avenues around 9:25 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, water from the canal was up to the door of the vehicle and the driver was unable to get out by themselves, according to Phoenix Fire Captain Danny Gile.

Crews used a ladder to rescue the driver from the vehicle. No major injuries were reported.

Police are not releasing the age or sex of the driver at this time.

Phoenix police are investigating what caused the crash.
