PHOENIX — Phoenix police say a 69-year-old man is dead after a four-vehicle crash near 7th Street and Thunderbird Road Saturday morning.

Officers say James Twigg was driving westbound on a private drive and failed to yield to traffic on 7th Street. Twigg's truck collided with a southbound car driven by a 64-year-old man. Upon impact, police say both vehicles struck a pickup truck and passenger vehicle.

Authorities say Twigg was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

His wife, a passenger in the car, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for additional treatment. Police say the drivers and passengers of the other cars were not hurt.

Police say the drivers of these vehicles were evaluated, and it was determined none were impaired.

The area was closed for several hours during the police investigation.
