Dozens of Valley student got an "out of this world" assignment --and they never had to leave planet Earth!
These days, Leslie Zaragoza is trading in the halls of Xavier Prep for mission control!
"Just a typical day at Space Camp," Zaragoza explains.
Sure, a normal day at Space Camp--and a dream come true. Zaragoza is one of dozens of students from across the Valley and hundreds of others from around the country and globe that who were selected to take part in the Honeywell Leadership Challenge Academy in Alabama.
For one week, out of this world experiments become part of everyday life.
"We build a rocket and we launched it and ours was very successful."
But it was just rockets; there were guest speakers, team building projects, even space simulations.
"My dad said to go to Space Camp, and I thought, 'But I have to miss school for a week!' And it was worth it!"
Leslie's favorite part -- making friends from all over the world who share her passion for science. She's eager to get that hands on experience and also even the playing field when it comes to women and careers in stem fields.
"Even though the field is divided, we're making our way to it becoming incredibly equal."
