PHOENIX, AZ — Valley officers stepped in to stop a violent crime spree last week.

Authorities first received reports of "shots fired" in the area of 20th Avenue and Bethany Home Road around 2 a.m. Saturday morning. Shortly after, officers received a second "shots fired" call.

Officers were attempting to locate the suspect, Andre Rippy, 39, who was believed to be driving a dark-colored car, but during their search, the man switched to a minivan.

Officers located Rippy an hour later near the area of Loop 101 and Loop 202 after he attempted to carjack a woman, a police spokesperson said.

DPS troopers used spike strips to stop Rippy, but he managed to drive to 15th Avenue and Thomas Road where police followed him on foot.

That's when officers came face to face with the armed man. Police say Rippy pulled out the gun, pointed it at officers, they, in return, fired.

Never-before-seen body camera video shows officers finally catching up to Rippy who was a suspect in several shootings earlier that night.

The new footage depicts dozens of shots fired back and forth between the suspect and officers.

Rippy died at the scene. Prior to the deadly shootout, Rippy spent five years in an Arizona state prison for burglary and drug charges.
