U.S. Sen. John McCain is skipping Donald Trump's speech in Phoenix.

McCain's campaign says he and his wife, Cindy, are taking Wednesday off at their home near Sedona.

McCain clinched a Republican primary victory Tuesday night after weeks of hard campaigning against three challengers.

McCain has said he supports his party's nominee but hasn't appeared with Trump during the GOP presidential nominee's four previous Arizona visits.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey will be speaking at the Wednesday evening event in downtown Phoenix in his first appearance on the same stage as Trump. Ducey plans remarks urging fellow Republicans to rally behind Trump and oppose Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Trump plans to outline his immigration policy during his speech. He's set to meet with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto earlier in the day.
