2-year-old girl in critical condition after Phoenix dog attack

PHOENIX — A 2-year-old girl is in critical condition after being attacked by a dog at a Phoenix home.

Phoenix police say the incident happened Tuesday around 6:30 p.m. at a home near 35th and Campbell avenues.

The mother of the girl tells police that the dog, which was inside the home at the time, jumped up and snatched the girl out of her arms and started attacking her.

Police say someone inside the home eventually shot and killed the dog, but the family would not say who. Police were unable to locate a gun in the home.

The child was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
