Two robbery suspects are in police custody after an hours-long standoff in Phoenix on Friday afternoon.

According to Phoenix police officials on scene, the robbery took place in the area of 51st Avenue and Baseline Road around 2 p.m. Shortly after, the suspects were located near 15th Avenue and Dobbins Road, and an hours-long standoff ensued.

Tactical teams were set in place, and police had their guns drawn.

"A lot of high powered rifles out there," said Robert, who lives in the neighborhood. "A lot of officers. Thought they were going to knock down my house with their SWAT trucks."

Robert lives right next door to the home where the suspects had fled to. Neighbors were told to take cover inside their houses.

"I just closed the door and stayed in there, I was pretty much trapped," said Robert. "Officers in the front and back."

After a few hours, the suspects were caught, cuffed, and taken away in police cruisers.

Police said the two men were apprehended after officers deployed a chemical agent.

The suspects were wearing some sort of material on their clothes and were armed with guns, officials say.

Both were taken into custody after 6 p.m.

The FBI is assisting the Phoenix Police Department with the investigation.
