Phoenix police say a suspect is in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound after being chased down by the brother of the owner of a stolen vehicle.

The incident started late Saturday night near Sheridan and 14th streets. Police say a man saw someone stealing his brother's car, a Honda Civic, got into his own vehicle to follow the suspect, and eventually shots were fired.

Police say the 18-year-old suspect was eventually shot by the 18-year-old man near 12th Street and McDowell Road and taken to the hospital. Police say the suspect pointed a gun towards the man, and that's when he fired his own gun.

That suspect is in the hospital in stable condition and will eventually be arrested for aggravated assault and stealing a vehicle.

The brother is reportedly cooperating with police, and it’s unclear if they will face any charges for their involvement.

No other injuries have been reported.
