PHOENIX — The public gathered to pay their respects Friday to Maricopa County detention Officer Gene "Jim" Lee who died after he was attacked by an inmate.
Lee was the victim of an unprovoked attack and was choked and thrown to the ground, MCSO officials say. When Officer Lee was knocked down, Penzone says he hit his head on the floor and was knocked unconscious. He later died from his injuries.
