Phoenix officer hurt in crash with wrong-way driver near 26th Street and Cactus Road

PHOENIX — An officer was involved in a serious crash with a wrong-way driver in Phoenix early Friday morning.

Crews were called to the area of 26th Street and Cactus Road around 6 a.m. for the crash. A police vehicle was seen with heavy damage at the scene, along with a white pickup truck.

According to Phoenix police, the truck driver, later identified as 22-year-old, Dylan Johnson was headed in the wrong direction in the westbound lanes of Cactus Road. The driver then struck the westbound police vehicle, police say.

The officer has serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life-threatening and remains hospitalized as of Sunday.

Johnson was also reportedly suffered serious injuries.

Police say Johnson was booked for aggravated assault-DUI and wrong-way driving.
