Police searching for suspect after sexual assault near ASU Downtown Campus

PHOENIX — Police are searching for a suspect wanted in connection to a reported sexual assault that took place in an outdoor stairwell near the Arizona State University Downtown campus on Monday afternoon.

According to ASU police, the incident took place between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. ASU police received notification of the assault Wednesday afternoon.

The initial report received by Phoenix police indicated the victim was struck on the head and dragged into an unknown stairwell where the sexual assault occurred. Phoenix police say the woman in her 50s was knocked unconscious during the incident.

The suspect was described as a black man between the ages of 30 to 40, a normal build, bald, wearing a light blue sweatshirt, purple t-shirt, and blue jeans. Police say the suspect was not known by the victim.

Phoenix police are handling the investigation, which is ongoing.
