Police: Man dead after being hit by a car in Phoenix

A man is dead after being struck by a car in Phoenix.

Police were called to the area of Camelback Road and SR 51 around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday after the man was hit by a car.

According to a Phoenix police spokesperson, the man was taken to the hospital where he later passed away as a result of his injuries. 

The driver involved in the incident remained at the scene and did not appear to be impaired, authorities said. It's unknown if any charges are expected to be filed.

Camelback Road from 16th to 18th streets will be closed for several hours while officials investigate the crash. In the meantime, drivers are urged to avoid the area.
