Phoenix police are looking for the person who shot and killed a pit bull last week.

The brown and white dog was found shot near 7th Avenue and Happy Valley Road around 9 p.m. on Monday, March 12.

Unfortunately, the dog did not survive its injuries.

"The reality is children and animals are the most innocent victims and people come forward in droves wanting to help, that's why we're putting this out there. We need the public's help with this one," said Sgt. Jamie Rothschild, spokesperson for Silent Witness.

Police say witnesses saw a silver two-door coupe leaving the area, driven by a woman in her early forties with blonde or red hair.

"We're not saying she is related to this but we're told she was in the area. She may have information about who was with the dog and why that happened, or how that happened," said Rothschild.

Anyone with information is asked to call Phoenix police or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS. You can remain anonymous.
