Phoenix police have identified a man who died after an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were attempting to stop Victor Rivera, 27, who was found in a stolen vehicle in Phoenix. Police followed the vehicle and saw Rivera stop the car on the 75th Avenue off-ramp from the I-10.

Officers who approached the car were assaulted and Rivera even tried to drive off, putting the officers in more danger and pinning one between the cars.

Police say a total of five cars were damaged when the suspect rammed them, but fortunately no one else reported injuries.

Out of self defense, one of the officers fired a shot at Rivera. He was then taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

The officer who fired the shot has 16 years of experience. He has since been put on administrative leave, which is protocol in officer-involved shootings.
