A 19-year-old Phoenix man was arrested on charges of animal cruelty after abusing a dog who died from its injuries.

According to police documents, Adam Drew Haislip is accused of hitting a beagle in the abdomen and throwing it into a swimming pool on March 16.

The dog's owner found the animal two hours after the incident and took it to an emergency animal hospital. Unfortunately, the dog passed away from its injuries.

A necropsy confirmed internal damage and hemorrhaging that the dog suffered.

Haislip reportedly admitted to "smacking the dog once or twice" and throwing it into the pool.

He was arrested on Wednesday and booked into jail on one felony charge of animal cruelty.
