The "Flame of Hope" lit the sky through downtown Phoenix Friday morning as students honored Martin Luther King, Jr.

Students from Edison Elementary School have been taking part in a symbolic torch run for ten years, each year around Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The 5K race began at City Hall and continued on to the State Capitol and Talking Stick Resort Arena before finishing at the Sheraton Downtown Phoenix Hotel.

The run marks the opening to the Martin Luther King Jr. Annual Awards Breakfast which honors community members who have made a commitment to making a difference.

This year, one person is set to be honored with an award named for former Councilman Calvin C. Goode.

Six others, Jacqueline Adams, Dr. George Brooks, Marchelle Franklin, Dr. Jerome Garrison, Ryan Johnson and Bishop Alexis Thomas, were awarded with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Living the Dream Award.
