Authorities say one person is in custody after running from officers and breaking into a home.

Police responded to an apartment complex near 43rd Street and McDowell Road for a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they observed someone running across the street. Police set up a perimeter to search for the subject and say he trespassed in a nearby neighborhood.

Officers on the scene said the suspect kicked in the door of a home, causing those inside at the time to run out the front door.

Police responded to the house and say while inside the suspect caused about $1,000 in damage.

He tried to escape through a window but was apprehended with the assistance of a police K-9.

Authorities say the suspect, who was not immediately identified, had drugs and paraphernalia at the time he was taken into custody.

He will face several felony charges, though investigators had not yet determined if he was responsible for the initial shots fired call. As of 9 p.m., no shell casings or firearm had been found, police said.
