Phoenix police investigating deadly hit-and-run involving a pedestrian

Police are investigating after a vehicle hit and killed a pedestrian Friday night.

Officers said the crash happened near 43rd Avenue and Indian School Road. 

Phoenix police say 22-year-old Noe Isai Hernandez-Gallardo was crossing the roadway when a pick-up truck struck him with its right side mirror. The truck was traveling southbound and left the scene. 

The man was left in the roadway when a white Chevrolet Malibu, which was traveling behind the truck, was unable to swerve away from the man. The 39-year-old driver did see the man but struck him with the lower right front corner of her car; the woman remained on the scene and called police. 

Police say Hernandez-Gallardo was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Authorities on the scene said witnesses observed a truck and a white or gray sedan were racing southbound on 43rd Avenue. 

The truck is described as a dark, charcoal grey pick-up truck that is missing its right side mirror.
