A Phoenix man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted and strangled his girlfriend, according to police.

Court documents show that just after the New Year, Phoenix Police were called to the area of I-17 and Bethany Home Road where they found a woman hiding in the bushes near an apartment complex.

Police say the victim was so in fear for her life after being assaulted by her boyfriend, 28-year-old Ryan Anthony Chiquete, that she threw herself off the second-story balcony.

Police found the woman bleeding and with a possible broken foot. The victim gave police a description of Chiquete and the location of his apartment across the street.

As officers went to the apartment complex to find Chiquete, they saw someone matching his description walking through the complex. Ironically, after losing sight of him briefly, they found him also hiding in some nearby bushes.

Police say they found blood and glass throughout the apartment and blood was found on Chiquete's shirt.

Chiquete is facing one charge of aggravated assault.
