PHOENIX — A 16-year-old girl was able to escape without injury after she caught a burglar breaking into her home Sunday morning.

The incident happened around 11:00 a.m. at the teen's home near 3rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Authorities say the girl was home alone when she heard someone breaking into her house. She called police and when officers arrived, they saw the suspect, 56-year-old David Bruce, force his way into the home and go in through the back door while the girl was still inside.

The girl was able to escape out the window and make contact with police. Officers saw Bruce leave the home and jump a fence. Police set up a perimeter and were able to locate and take him into custody.

Authorities say they found items from the house in the backyard. Bruce said there was another suspect with him, but no other suspects or evidence of other suspects were located, police say.

Bruce was booked into jail and charged with burglary and trespassing.
