There's a new push to equip all Phoenix police officers with body cameras.

Mayor Greg Stanton and Councilwoman Thelda Williams say they want the program implemented in the next few years.

Last year, the city got a federal grant to double the number of body camerasused by officers from 150 to 300.

Phoenix is currently implementing a plan to hire 300 new officers over the next three years.

In a statement, Mayor Stanton said, "If one tool can help our police officers more effectively do their jobs while reducing complaints and improving community relations, then it's an investment that Phoenix has to make."

Stanton and Williams said that a pilot program in Maryvale has proven the benefits of body-warn cameras.
