Woman hit, killed in PHX; abandoned car found

Officials are searching for the driver of a vehicle who fled after hitting and killing a pedestrian overnight in Phoenix.

Phoenix Police say around 2 a.m. on Friday, police saw a dark blue Hyundai with front-end damage near 44th and Wiletta streets, near McDowell Road. No driver or indication or a nearby crash was found, though.

Shortly after, a woman was found in the middle of the road near 40th Street and McDowell Road. She was pronounced dead the scene.

Police are working to determine if the two scenes are connected and are trying to locate the driver.

The area around McDowell Road, from 44th to 40th streets and 44th street south to Wiletta, is expected to remain closed through morning rush hour.
