PHOENIX — Police say speed appears to be a factor in a deadly crash near 35th Avenue and Thunderbird Road Tuesday night.
Officers were called to the scene around 7:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a single-vehicle crash in the area.
Authorities say a vehicle was traveling north on 31st Avenue, when for an unknown reason, it collided with a pole on the corner of 31st Avenue and Voltaire.
Police say the driver, 36-year-old Damien Turnidge, and sole occupant of the vehicle - was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers say the investigation is ongoing, but police believe Turnidge was speeding when he crashed.
