PHOENIX — A road rage fight led to a stabbing in Phoenix Wednesday afternoon, Phoenix police say.
According to Phoenix police, the incident occurred near 32nd Street and Union Hills Drive around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The suspect, 35-year-old Garret Smith, attempted to make a U-turn mid-block on Union Hills Drive when he allegedly cut off the vehicle behind him, police say.
Smith's actions reportedly angered a person in the backseat of the vehicle that was cut off, so the person got out of the car and approached Smith's vehicle, punching him through the open window.
The man returned to his vehicle and Smith got a large hunting knife, approached the victim's car and allegedly stabbed him as he was seated inside, according to police.
Police say officers responding to a different call arrived at the scene and took Smith into custody.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.
Smith was booked into jail on aggravated assault charges.
