PHOENIX — A 49-year-old woman is dead after police say she failed to yield to oncoming traffic near 55th Avenue and Indian School Road Saturday morning.

According to Phoenix police, the woman, identified as Regina Marie Ritter, was pulling out from a private drive onto eastbound Indian School Road around 10 a.m. Saturday.

Ritter failed to yield to westbound traffic, police say, and was stuck but a Ford van traveling westbound.

The van hit the driver’s side of Ritter’s vehicle, police say.

She sustained “numerous injuries” from the crash, according to police.

Members of the fire department extricated her from the vehicle and transported her to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Ritter’s passenger, only identified as a 56-year-old male, was uninjured, according to police.

The driver of the van was uninjured and remained at the scene.

Police say impairment and speed are not considered a factor in the deadly crash.
