PHOENIX — A nine-year-old girl is recovering after being struck by a car Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to the scene near 21st and Missouri avenues around 4:30 p.m.
Police say the girl was crossing the street to get to an ice cream truck with a friend when she was hit by an SUV traveling east on Missouri.
Phoenix fire crews say the girl was unconscious for a short time, but is now awake and alert. She was transported to the hospital to be treated for a possible broken leg, firefighters say.
Officers say the driver of the SUV remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.
