Officer, several children injured in Phoenix crash

PHOENIX — Police are investigating a crash involving a Phoenix officer that left several children with serious injuries.

The crash occurred near 20th Avenue and Buckeye Road.

Officials on scene say a passenger car and another vehicle were headed in the same direction when the passenger car did a U-turn in front of the other vehicle, which was driven by a police officer.

The officer was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

In the other vehicle, there was a man driving, a woman in the passenger seat, and three young children.

Police say the driver suffered serious injuries and the woman in the passenger seat suffered minor injuries.

A 3-year-old is in extremely critical condition, a 4-year-old has life-threatening injuries and a 6-year-old has serious injuries. Officials said the children were not restrained in the vehicle at the time of the crash

The crash is still under investigation.
