PHOENIX — One Valley couple rang in the new year by welcoming the first baby born in the Valley in 2019!

Banner Estrella Medical Center in Phoenix says Aidan Soto was born just after midnight on New Year's Day. He was born naturally at 12:00 a.m. (and 47 seconds, to be exact), to his mother, 19-year-old Gabriella Soto.

Hospital officials say the baby is the first baby of the year to be born at any of Banner's Valley and Tucson hospitals. They also made calls to other hospitals and it appears that little Aidan is the first baby born in the Valley altogether.

ABC15 spoke with the new mom and dad Tuesday morning who said they were in a "competition" with another woman in labor in the hospital, but they "won" the baby race.

The medical team at Banner's Women and Infant Services made a "diaper cake" to celebrate the birth of the 7-pound, 10-ounce baby boy.

The couple says they're looking forward to relaxing and getting to enjoy their new bundle of joy.
