PHOENIX — Maricopa County Animal Care and Control has put out a warning involving a door-to-door donation scam.

In a news release, the shelter says a person or people are going to homes and approaching people in public asking for donations to MCACC. Those behind the activity are not acting with the approval of MCACC, as the organization says it does not call or go door-to-door for donations of any kind.

Those who are authorized to collect donations on the shelter's behalf seek approval beforehand and are given pamphlets and other information to pass out, according to spokesperson Jose Santiago.

Anyone who is approached at home or while out and about by someone asking for donations to MCACC is asked to contact local law enforcement.
