PHOENIX — A man has died after he was struck by a vehicle on Interstate 17 near downtown Phoenix early Monday morning.
Officials were called to the scene along the freeway near 16th Street around 3 a.m.
Troopers say a man was running across the freeway when he was struck by a vehicle. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, DPS says.
The driver reportedly stayed on scene and is cooperating. It's unclear why the pedestrian was on the freeway.
The pedestrian has not yet been identified.
