Immigrant advocates to rally against Arpaio

Immigrant rights advocates are planning a rally Wednesday outside of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's office to call for a judge to bring criminal contempt-of-court charges against the lawman.

Organizer Salvador Reza says Arpaio opponents believe a criminal contempt case is warranted against the sheriff for his disobedience of court orders in a racial profiling case.

Earlier this month, Arpaio was found to be in civil contempt for violating his orders, such as letting officers conduct immigration patrols 18 months after the judge barred them.

The decision brings Arpaio to a possible criminal contempt case that could expose him to fines and even jail time.

Arpaio says the protest organizers have held demonstrations against him in the past.

He says he hopes protesters behave themselves as they exercise their free-speech rights.
