Phoenix fire officials are investigating a fire that damaged two homes early Monday morning.
Firefighters were called out to the scene near 36th Street and Indian School Road where crews found heavy fire affecting two homes and a vehicle parked in one of the driveways.
Officials say one home was occupied at the time, but the family of three was able to safely escape after being awoken by a loud boom.
Fire crews say the blaze damaged the kitchen, living room and attic. The second home, which was unoccupied, suffered less damage.
According to information on scene, a couch fire was reported over the weekend at one of the homes.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
