PHOENIX — Two people were rushed to the hospital Tuesday night after being burned in an apartment fire in central Phoenix.

Phoenix firefighters say crews responded to reports of the fire near SR 51 and Camelback shortly after 7 p.m.

When firefighters arrived on scene they found a man and woman suffering from burn injuries.

The man was transported to a local burn center in extremely critical condition with extensive burns to his torso, according to Phoenix Fire Captain Kenny Overton.

Overton says the woman was also transported to the hospital. She is listed in stable condition at this time.

Officials say no firefighters were injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
