Authorities say a wrong-way driver crashed into a sport utility vehicle on State Route 51 early Monday morning before fleeing the scene.

Trooper Kameron Lee of the Arizona Department of Public Safety says the wrong-way driver was traveling southbound on the freeway's northbound lanes around 5 a.m. and collided with the SUV around Camelback.

Two people inside the SUV suffered minor injuries.

The crash caused the freeway's northbound lanes to be closed for about an hour.

Officers unsuccessfully searched the area for the silver or gray sedan that the suspect was traveling in.

The sedan is believed to have sustained front-end and passenger-side damage.
