The Arizona Department of Transportation closed the eastbound Loop 202 at Gilbert Road after a serious crash overnight.
Officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety say tire failure caused the crash. The driver reportedly overcorrected after losing control of the vehicle, slamming into the concrete barrier wall and back across several traffic lanes.
The driver and passenger, both women, were unrestrained and thrown from the vehicle as it rolled.
One of the women died at the hospital and the other was pinned under the car, but taken to the hospital with injuries.
Officials are also looking into impairment as a factor in the crash.
