PHOENIX - Officials are investigating a deadly crash in Phoenix.
The crash happened just after 3:00 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 10 near 7th Avenue.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said one person was killed in the two-vehicle crash.
DPS on scene told ABC15 the crash occurred after a motorist ran out of gas in the HOV lane. Less than a minute after that driver alerted DPS of their disabled car, another vehicle slammed into the back of the car.
The driver of the disabled vehicle was killed and the other driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
It does not appear that speed or impairment were factors in the crash.
Traffic was restricted in the area but reopened around 6:30 a.m. The Arizona Department of Transportation says to expect a backup in the area while traffic resumes.
