PHOENIX — Arizona Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a wrong-way crash on State Route 51 Sunday night.
Emergency calls started to come in around 10 p.m. for a wrong-way vehicle near Glendale Avenue. Soon after, DPS received reports of a crash involving a vehicle, headed southbound in the northbound lanes, that had just collided with a motorcycle.
DPS says the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The wrong-way driver, identified as Louis Dominquez, was not hurt. He faces charges of aggravated assault and three counts of endangerment, officials say.
Impairment may be a factor in the crash.
Traffic was shut down for several hours but has since reopened.
