The Arizona Department of Public Safety announced they have arrested the man connected to a deadly hit-and-run crash on Interstate 17.

DPS said 24-year-old Farlando Smith turned himself to officials in Holbrook on Thursday morning.

According to DPS, Smith fled the Valley and went to the Navajo Indian Reservation.

Smith was booked into Navajo County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of a deadly hit-and-run crash.

Officials said the deadly incident happened on Interstate 17 near Thomas Road. It occurred just before 2:30 a.m. Monday.

The driver of a disabled vehicle was reportedly hit and killed by a passing vehicle. DPS originally reported that a Good Samaritan who stopped to help the driver was hit and killed, but later corrected the report.
