An employee with the Arizona Department of Economic Security is accused of attacking a co-worker while on the job.

Director Timothy Jeffries announced the arrest of Gary Phillips by the DES Office of Inspector General on Tuesday.

According to the media release, Phillips, a supervisor within the DES Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services, physically assaulted the subordinate employee more than once.

"I am outraged that one of our employees would attack another co-worker," said Jeffries in a prepared statement. "My heart aches for the victim. We will do everything in our power to see the individual who committed this time is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law."

Phillips was arrested by the DES Office of Inspector General while at work, according to the release. He was taken to the Department of Public Safety for fingerprints and photo verification. His mug shot has not been released.

"The physical safety of DES colleagues is a responsibility the OIG intends to uphold. Criminal acts committed by colleagues to physically harm others will not be tolerated," said Inspector General Juan J. Arcellana in a prepared statement.

No other details were released.
