Christine Jones' lead over Andy Biggs in 5th District race shrinks

Posted

Former internet executive Christine Jones is retaining a razor-thin lead in the Republican primary in a suburban Phoenix congressional district.

Jones' edge over state Senate President Andy Biggs dwindled from nearly 580 votes to just 37 votes Friday as more ballots were counted.

The race to replace retiring Republican Rep. Matt Salmon in the 5th District remains too close to call.

Maricopa County elections officials say there are still 5,200 early ballots left to tabulate and more than 3,200 provisional ballots have yet to be processed.

The Maricopa County Recorder's Office will continue tabulating into the evening.

The primary winner will almost certainly go on to represent the heavily Republican district spanning Gilbert, Queen Creek and parts of Chandler and Mesa.
