PHOENIX — An arrest has been made in connection to a massive fire investigation in the downtown Phoenix area.

On Friday night, Phoenix police say 54-year-old Ted Hopkins was arrested and is suspected of setting an apartment structure on fire on June 7.

Fire investigators with Phoenix Fire, Phoenix Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said earlier on Friday that the fire at 6th Avenue and Grant Street was being investigated as arson.

During the course of the investigation detectives gathered enough probable evidence to arrest Hopkins. According to Phoenix PD, the arrest happened near 8th Avenue and Madison Street, about a block away from where the fire happened.

Hopkins was booked into the Maricopa County Jail for one count of arson of an occupied structure, criminal damage, weapons violation and endangerment.

Officials say although enough evidence was collected to arrest Hopkins the exact cause of the fire hasn't yet been determined and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anybody with information is urged to contact the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS to remain anonymous.
