A state commission plans hearings month in Phoenix, Tucson and Florence to hear public comment on Arizona appellate and trial court judges who will be up for retention on the November general election ballot.

The Arizona Commission on Judicial Performance Review will hold a hearing Friday in Tucson, followed by hearings March 11 in Phoenix and March 18 in Florence.

Judges up for retention include Supreme Court Justice Ann Scott Timmer and seven Court of Appeals judges -- six in the Phoenix-based division and one in the Tucson-based division.

There will be 43 Superior Court judges on the ballot in Maricopa County, 17 in Pima County and five in Pinal County.

The commission reviews judges' performance and decides whether they meet standards set by the commission, which publishes its findings.
