Jilted lovers convicted of posting compromising photos of their former boyfriends or girlfriends online to hurt them could be sent to prison for more than two years under legislation signed into law by Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey.
The measure signed by Ducey Friday goes into effect immediately because it contains an emergency clause.
The bill targeting so-called "revenge porn" replaces a 2014 law put on hold by a federal judge because of a constitutional challenge. Opponents of that legislation worked with Republican Rep. J.D. Mesnard to tweak the legislation so booksellers and artists weren't swept up in the law's criminal provisions.
House Bill 2001 now says the images would have to be shared with the intent to harm the person in the photos to be guilty of a felony.
