A sandstone monument memorializing a fallen Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper will be unveiled and dedicated Friday in Phoenix.

Christopher Marano died in December 2009 during a pursuit of a stolen vehicle along the Loop 101 near Phoenix.

The 28-year-old Marano was struck and killed by a patrol car involved in the pursuit as he laid out spike strips.

He served with the DPS for 3 1/2 years and left behind a wife and four children.

Friday's ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the department's Knutson Station.

Marano's family and friends are expected to attend and DPS officials say the event is open to the public.
