Andy Biggs, Christine Jones update: Arizona judge orders recount in close GOP congressional race

A judge has ordered Arizona officials to conduct a recount of ballots in the razor-thin Republican primary in the state's 5th Congressional District.

State Senate President Andy Biggs leads former internet executive Christine Jones by just 16 votes out of nearly 86,000 votes cast in the four-way 5th Congressional District primary. Two other candidates trailed.

State law requires a recount because of Biggs' small margin.

Elections officials on Tuesday obtained a court order for the recall after Maricopa County and state officials approved their respective canvasses Monday.

Officials said the recount will take several days to conduct and results will be announced Friday.

The GOP primary winner will be favored to win the open seat for the heavily Republican district in southeastern Phoenix suburbs. Incumbent Republican Matt Salmon is retiring.
